The Season of Imbolc February 2026
Blessings of Imbolc
Original Petracrow Blessing Poem
The sacred land is cold and dark
But within the Earth awaits a spark
Snowdrops emerge, freed from frosted soil
A signal rest is over, soon time to toil
Bearing ewes give way to spring lambs
Candle spells open roads to active plans
Sing the poems of old by the fire
Craft goods anew they’ll surely desire
Grab your harp & golden reeds
May Brigid’s Cross bless your needs
Let’s rejoice as the Goddess hearth burns
For once again the year’s wheel turns
Sowing of the Seeds Spell
The first plants of the year have sprouted through the snowy soil, marking the earth's fertility and ushering the growing half of the year. With each passing day the warm Suns power waxes in strength and longer days. Goddess Brigid, mother of the hearth and fertility, roams the Earth spreading signs of fertility and blessings to endure the last cold days ahead. It's a potent time to sow seeds of intention to be nurtured through the next half of the wheel. Think about what you’d like to grow and cultivate during the next 6 months. With this spell you will light your hearth & plant the seeds physically and metaphorically to help you have an abundant harvest to come!
Spell Ingredients:
1 White Candle (any size, preferably small)
Candle Holder (Temporary contain lit candle )
Vessel of Water (any size)
Small pot (earthenware preferably)
Potting soil (enough for pot)
Seed (any plant desired/aligned with intention)
Paper (for intention)
Pen (for intention)
Tongs (optional)
Spell Preparation: Cleanse all tools and materials for the spell with your preferred method of purification. If you need inspiration, I recommend running each item through incense smoke. Set an altar/sacred space with your empty pot at the center, vessel of water to the left, and the white candle to the right. Optionally decorate your altar with what feels right to you and represents the season. Brigid’s Cross, candles, flowers, reeds, bread, milk, sheep figures and more are all appropriate symbols of Imbolc. Set your chosen seed and soil on the altar near the candle. Choose seeds from a plant that represents your intentions. For example if you are seeking to manifest peace and harmony in your life because you’ve been dealing with chaos, plant lavender. For motivation and inspiration to finish a project, plant marigold, etc. If you need help choosing, I recommend using Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, a book of herbal correspondence. If you can’t get anything fancy, any seed is better than no seed. When ready to start the spell, cast a circle as usual. If you don’t know what that means, there are many examples in books and on the internet. Remember to always cast your spells with intention at all times, visualizing your goal and how it will feel once you have achieved it.
Spell Directions:
Light your candle, in a candle holder, saying, “In Brigid’s name I light this candle in honor of your hearth. May you guide my intentions as you guide the first signs of spring.”
Hold up the vessel of water saying, “In Imbolc’s name I give you this water. May the water inside this vessel represent the water of the womb that sprouts new life.”
Hold up your pot saying, “In the name of my highest good, I welcome my brightest future to grow in this vessel of earth.”
Begin adding your potting soil, visualizing clearing any obstacles from your path and creating a fresh slate for growth.
Once the pot is full of soil to your satisfaction, make a small cross with your index and middle fingers of your dominant hand, starting from the top to center to right then center to bottom and so on always returning center till you have formed a cross, saying, “Goddess of hearth and home, protect me as I roam, through endless roads of growth and creativity, I invite the poems of your divinity, welcoming in a fertile dimension, create home for my seed of intention!”
Move your candle to the center of the Brigid’s Cross to symbolize her hearth opening up the soils energy to your intentions.
Take your paper and write your intention you’d like to manifest on to it. Write as if you already possess the reality you desire. Make sure to sign your name on the paper and thank Brigid for her energy. Bonus is to write it as a poem.
Fold the paper loosely three times towards yourself clockwise. Then light the paper on fire, using tongs if you’d like, saying, “Mother of the hearth flame, hear my intention in your name. I speak from the heart, I ask for this new start!”
Let go of the paper once you can’t hold it, allowing it to drop onto the soil. With your finger mix the remaining intention ash clockwise into the soil till it is fully incorporated.
Make a small 2 inch hole and place your seeds within speaking your intention from the heart. Cover them and level the soil gently. Don’t pack the soil down.
Take the vessel of water and hold it over the pot saying, “The first sip from the divine, nourish my intentions now to grow with time! As I care for this plant, so too will it carry my heart’s chant! So mote it be!” Pour a small amount above where your seeds lay within the blessed soil.
Set your pot on your altar or in a sun facing window and follow the proper car for the plant you are growing. Let the candle burn for the goddess as an offering of your gratitude. Each day speak to your plant and encourage it to grow and grow your intention. Bonus is to draw Brigid’s Cross or other symbols on your pot to increase your spells potency.
